Ambulant Toilet Standards in Australia:
In Australia, various regulations must be followed when designing or constructing an ambulant toilet. Below are some of the key requirements:
- A minimum clear circulation space of 900mm x 900mm on either side of the toilet entry door (airlock).
- A 900mm distance between the door swing and the toilet pan (if the door swings inwards) or 900mm between the door opening and the toilet pan (if the door swings outwards).
- A minimum 700mm doorway opening.
- Toilet pan projection of 610mm - 660mm from the rear to the front of the pan.
- Toilet seat height between 460mm and 480mm above the finished floor level (this applies to accessible toilets as well).
- 900mm - 902mm width inside the cubicle.
- A 45mm long privacy locking snib lock lever.
- The washbasin must be positioned outside the circulation space in the bathroom.
Ambulant Toilet Requirements:
For toilets designed for individuals with ambulant disabilities, the following must be met, in accordance with AS1428.1-2009 (Clause 16):
- Grab rails on each side of the cubicle, able to withstand a force of 1100N at any position.
- Toilet roll holder in an accessible location.
- A coat hook inside the cubicle.
- Full signage specifications as per AS1428.1.
