Make a Spring Cleaning Checklist
The first thing you should do when undertaking a big job is make a checklist. Many sites on the internet have already done this for you and you only have to tweak the list a little to fit your needs. Before getting started on the cleaning, it’s a good idea to go through your list and make note of what cleaning supplies you will need. Then take an inventory and make a list of what you need to buy at the store. There’s nothing worse than getting into cleaning mode and then right in the middle finding out that you are missing some supplies. It will stop your flow and you will likely have to get yourself all cleaned up and changed just to go to the store. So, after you’ve made your cleaning checklist, be sure to take an inventory of all your cleaning supplies and make a list of what you need so that you can go to the store before you start cleaning. Remember to add gloves, sponges, towels, masks, etc. in addition to your cleaning supplies so that you are well prepared and stocked to begin cleaning. Remember to start from the top and work your way down in every room. Here are 5 extra cleaning tips for each room in your home:
Spring Cleaning in the Kitchen
The kitchen is the one room in the house that probably gets cleaned more often than the rest, but it still needs some special attention for spring cleaning. Here are 5 spring cleaning tips for your kitchen.
- Sanitize the Sink. Did you know that your sink can usually have more germs than your toilet seat? This is true and, in fact, might make you want to sanitize it more often than just during spring cleaning. Use a disinfecting cleanser and wipe the sink clean. After washing the sink with soap and water, you can use a bleach or other type of disinfectant of your choice. Or you can first spray it with vinegar, then wait for the vinegar to dry and spray it
- Disinfect the Garbage Disposal. Disinfect the garbage disposal in your sink by running it with a cut up lemon, salt, and a few ice cubes. This helps keep the disposal fresh and running well too.
- Sanitize Your Sponges. Your sponges can get pretty grimy. Extend the life of your sponge by spraying it with bleach or a disinfectant solution of your choosing.
- Keeping the Oven Clean. Oven cleaning is one of the toughest jobs in the kitchen. Waiting until spring cleaning to clean your oven might be too late and create an unmanageable job. Instead, give yourself a big head start and invest in an oven liner. This is a non-stick, oven safe matt that can be wipe down with a paper towel and is dishwasher safe and reusable.
- Clean behind the Appliances. Move all the appliances away from the wall so that you can clean and sweep behind them and clean the backs of the appliances and the walls.
Spring Cleaning the Bedrooms
The bedrooms can always use some sprucing up for spring cleaning. This is the time to maybe consider to sheets, new pillows, and new towels. Those three things alone will help freshen up your bedroom routine. Here are 5 more spring cleaning tips for your bedroom.
- Add one storage item to your bedrooms. Your bedrooms should be clutter free and a place where you can easily relax and fall to sleep quickly. If you see a mess or something to clean when it is time for bed, it makes it difficult for your brain to shut off. If each year, you convert one item into storage, this can help counteract the extra tchotchkes and things you bought over the last year.
- Flip Your Mattress. If you have a type of mattress that needs to be moved around, rotated, or flipped, this is a great time to do that. While you are flipping or moving your mattress, pull your bed out and wipe behind it, dust, and vacuum the floor underneath it.
- Donate Things You Don’t Need. This can also apply to the other rooms in your home, but the bedrooms seems to have lots of things that you no longer use or need whether it is clothes or the kids’ toys.
- Clean or Dust the Curtains or Blinds. You might have blinds or curtains in more rooms in your home, but the bedroom almost always has them. This is a good time to have curtains cleaned, or clean them yourself and wipe down the blinds or dust them.
- Clean Out the Closets. The bedroom closets almost always need help. After deciding what you want to give away or sell at a garage sale, then it’s time to clean and then organise the closets. There are plenty of ways you can get closet organisation help from the stores. Utilise whatever help you can get from closet organiser kits or shelving options to ensure that your closet can remain organised and in great shape all year long.
