Benjamin Hubert Lighting Designer Profile
Benjamin Hubert is an internationally renowned British designer.
After completing his studies in Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University, Hubert worked for a number of well established design consultancy firms including Tangerine, Seymour Powell and DCA. During this time Benjamin worked with brands like LG, Coca Cola, Nike and Samsung.
Hubert now has his own studio in North East London and heads up a team of industrial designers, researchers and engineers who work on a range of projects including everything from lighting to furniture design and architectural installations.
The studio frequently collaborates with some of the largest international brands across all markets including Australia, Asia, Europe and the US.
The basic philosophy behind the making process at Benjamin Hubert’s studio practice is to focus more on materials, usability and sustainability rather than working from a trend-focused perspective.
Some of his accolades include Loughborough University’s Best Graduating Designer and Elle Décor’s Award for Designer of the Year. He has also received the Designer of the Year Award in the British Design awards, Best Product in the 100% Design/Blueprint Awards, Home and Gardens Young Designer of the Year, EDIDA International Young Designer of the Year and the A+W Audi Mentorpreis.
Now let’s go through some of Benjamin Hubert’s most well known lighting designs.
Spinning BH1 and Spinning BH2
Its form is inspired by the process of metal spinning and the popular childhood toy, the spinning top. Because of their versatile design, both pendants in the Spinning series work in both residential and commercial interiors, on their own or clustered together.
Then there is the Spinning BH2 pendant which is larger:
Labware Lighting Series
Benjamin Hubert’s Labware series includes 3 different pendant light designs. There’s the conical shape, sphere and cylinder. It’s clear to see that these lights were inspired by traditional laboratory beakers. The blown glass lamps were designed by Hubert for the brand Authentics and went on to win Best New Product at , the UK’s largest design trade event.
These lamps are ideal for minimal, nordic inspired interiors or commercial settings where a touch of cool is called for.
Benjamin Hubert Chimney Clay Pendant Lamps
Benjamin Hubert’s Chimney clay pendant lamp’s are a collection of hand thrown clay pendant lights designed by Benjamin Hubert for Viaduct. They are organic, neutral and simple, therefore making them perfect for home use and also an exceptional choice for cafes, bars and restaurants.
