Space Landscape Designs are a swimming pool and landscape design company who has been approached to design a pool and landscaping in the Middle East. The feature of the innovative design is a 4 sided wet edge swimming pool.
The client has done his research and found that Australia is the number one place for pool designers. Oman where the pool will be built is one of the richest countries in the Middle East is quickly taking on western cultures. Oman is situated on the Arabian Sea and bordering Yemen, Saudi Arabia and The United Emirates. Oman is a land of stunning landscapes, from plains to mountains and deserts to unspoiled beaches which stretches to 1700kms of pristine coastline.
Today, Oman is making its presence felt around the world, transforming itself into a modern and vibrant nation with international milestones which include the following:
- Ranked 4th in the Arab world and 40th internationally in the ‘Economic Freedom of the World’ 2008, annual report published by the Fraser Institute of Canada.
- Tourism destination for the year 2008 by Vogue Magazine
- Topped the Arab countries in peace and security according to an ‘international peace index’ prepared by the Studies and Info Unit at the UK – based Economist.
Where better to build a billion dollar luxury development but on the coast in Muscat the capital and largest city in Oman. Muscat combines beautiful properties and a 400-berth marina. An international golf course designed by Greg Norman, has captured the essence of the surrounding environment and enhanced it to produce a challenging course of varying hole lengths and configurations.
Following in Greg Normans footsteps, Space Landscape Designs has now been approached to design swimming pools and surrounding landscapes for a residential complex. With their unique and innovative pool designs Space Landscape Designs are quickly becoming Sydney’s leading landscape and swimming pool designers.
To coincide with the modern architecture in this development, the owner wanted a unique pool design never seen before. Space Landscape Designs was excited by this challenge and has fulfilled the clients dream.
Like an oasis in the desert this particular pool design offers the illusion of floating water. The only way to achieve this aspect of floating water was to incorporate a wet edge into the pool design. As this property is situated on the waters edge Space Landscape Designs wanted the floating water illusion from all angles. Sitting inside the property or in the surrounding backyard it was imperative that all angles were covered. There was one solution, to design a 4 sided wet edge swimming pool.
The swimming pool design has the pool sitting out of the ground so that the 4 sided negative wet edges can be achieved. Water which flows over the wet edges spill into a covered trough.
The pool design did not stop with the main pool. As the owner has young children, it was important that they too could use this unique design therefore a kiddie’s pool was also included in the clients brief. The question is how Space Landscape Designs can incorporate this kiddie’s pool into the main pool design. The solution was to position the 300mm deep baby pool at the northern end of the pool. Water now cascades from the main pool over the wet edge into the babies pool giving that continues flowing effect. Not satisfied with the baby’s pool at ground level this too was also raised slightly with yet another 2 sided wet edge effect. These 2 sides now spill over into the covered balance tank.
The dynamic landscape design that surrounds the pool was influenced by the countries stunning landscape. A selection of drought tolerant plants and combination of bluestone and sandstone paving completes the pool surroundings.
The pool is to be fully tiled with bright blue mosaics giving that floating oasis effect. This particular contemporary boutique pool is 10 meters in length and 4 meters wide.
Construction on this swimming pool is scheduled for mid January and will be finished in March. Photos of the unique 4 sided wet edge swimming pool design will be displayed on Space Landscape Designs website on completion.
