Not all building inspectors are the same, the phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ couldn’t be truer when it comes to Construction and Pre Purchase inspections, and here’s why…
The building inspection industry in South Australia isn’t regulated, therefore, someone providing you with an inspection report, doesn’t legally need to be qualified.
As a result, there is now a clear risk to anyone looking to engage a building inspection service.
Before engaging a building inspector, ensure the following is in place:
- Check the qualifications of the person carrying out your inspection. Ensure they have proper building experience (All of our inspectors at Houspect are qualified builders)
- Ensure that if you need any help in understanding your report that your inspector is available to speak with you once the inspection and report has been completed.
- Check their professional indemnity insurance: Many will have as little as $250,000, some won't have any at all, Houspect has coverage of $5,000,000.
Do your research, ask questions and remember ‘cheap and fast’ are catchy labels, but they don’t guarantee effort or quality, its important to ensure you understand exactly you’re paying for so you’re not caught out.
