Having a garage sale before moving interstate

When you're looking to move, the last thing on your mind is what's going into storage. But there are some things that can help reduce costs when it comes time for transport- like getting rid of unwanted furniture or boxes full old kid’s toys from years ago; they'll only add unnecessary weight if not taken along with us!
The things we recommend considering:
- Planning in advance - You'll need to choose a date, making sure that it won't conflict with any important events in your town or area and has a good forecast. The sooner you plan, the longer you'll have to advertise.
- Cleaning and organising - Start cleaning out your garage into an open area of your house early, which will allow you to begin organising, pricing and labelling.
- Get sale-day ready - Set up a few tables and some signage. If you have a lot of high-quality things, you'll want to keep people around so consider decorating your garage and having refreshments. The sooner you set up (in your garage preferably), the more time you'll have to properly organise things into their categories.
- Get advertising - Put up flyers around your neighbourhood, post an ad on online classified websites or social media. You can register for the Garage Sale Trail or even make up a nice big sign for your front yard.
- Making money - You'll want to make some money for all your hard work and for the items you're selling. Pop into some in the weeks leading up to yours to see what people are selling common items for such as books, records, kitchenware and decor. You'll also need to get some cash change and review your options for taking digital payments.
