Lick Colour & Design

Welcome to the new world of interior colour & design where, you can no longer trust just anyone with the colour scheme for your house or business. Meet Terry Hogg, founder and owner of Lick Colour & Design, a company dedicated to choosing which paint should go where. But I have been assured by Terry that it is a lot more than just choosing paints, “it involves an initial onsite consultation to determine any colour-matching or decorating issues, clients personal preferences and all design influences, the consideration of all light sources whether natural or artificial, follow-up consultations onsite to discuss the proposed colour’s and the appropriate paint finish and suppliers for the job and finally recommending painters and briefing them with the specifications so there is no confusion to what will be going where.” Quite a complicated process for what, can not be argued, an extremely important design aspect of a house/business.

Having completed several Colour/Design courses at the School of Colour and Design in The Rocks, and working for several paint companies, Terry believes there is a real need for this unique field of expertise. Self taught, he believes the bulk of his work derives from intuition and reacting with the client’s needs. Inspired by the Dutch/German World of design and architecture, Terry senses that the trend of using neutrals is slowly “swinging out of this and into colour”. And seeing his office slash apartment you can tell he likes to experiment with all sorts of colour’s, as you walk through the door you are met with an obscure wall of dark green and then each wall beyond that has a different colour and what at first you would think were a bunch of colour’s that shouldn’t go together, marry perfectly lighting up the room in a very cool but tasteful manner complimenting the sophisticated open plan.

So why does one seek the services of a colour consultant, Terry states 5 reasons why you should:

  • It can add value to your property, sometimes as much as 10%.
  • Attract people to your property and make it stand out from the “rest”.
  • You avoid expensive disasters; paint and the painters can be unnecessarily costly.
  • You create an environment to suit your lifestyle needs.
  • Improve your wellbeing and quality of life.

Perhaps this is why successful Accessory’s designer agent Peter Lang has acquired the services of Lick to design the colour scheme for his home and showroom. Either way this is a great example of the design revolution proving how interior design is now getting broken down into it’s lowest common denominators, soon we will have specifically coloured cats or dogs chosen to match with the décor, who knows what design consultants will pop up with next to support our perfect living or working space.
